Joined Shueisha in 1976 as an editor, overseeing publications like Weekly Shonen Jump, Monthly Shonen Jump and VJump.
Became full-time director at Shueisha in August 2004, later serving as a concurrent director at Shogakukan-Shueisha Productions.
Was later promoted to managing director at Shueisha in August 2009, then to senior managing director in August 2010.
In August 2015, they retired from this position to become president and CEO of Hakusensha in November of the same year.
Promoted to a board chairman in November 2018, a position that was held until Torishima retired from it in 2021.
Served as an advisor to the company until November 30, 2022.
